Delta is a flexible, three-module qualification for people with experience of teaching English to speakers of other languages who want to progress further in their careers. Because it is awarded by Cambridge English Language Assessment, part of the University of Cambridge, Delta is internationally recognised, highly respected and a benchmark for quality.

Module 1 (the exam) focuses on extending and developing candidates’ knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning English in a range of contexts.

Module 2 (teaching practice) focuses on developing awareness and expertise in the principles and professional practice of teaching English in a range of contexts.

Module 3 (course design) focuses on needs analysis, syllabus design, course planning and assessment.

The three modules can also be taken separately and are separately certificated.

The three modules of Delta will:

  • extend your knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice of English language teaching
  • encourage you to critically examine your current beliefs and practices as a teacher
  • help you apply your new knowledge and understanding to your current teaching role
  • extend your knowledge of English language teaching in contexts other than adult learners
  • develop your career by allowing you to apply for more senior roles.

This qualification is for teachers with some experience who want to:

  • build on their initial English teaching qualification and progress further in their career
  • extend their professional knowledge, develop their skills and apply these to different teaching contexts
  • take on new and challenging responsibilities in their teaching careers
  • demonstrate a commitment to the profession and prove their ability
  • examine their existing practices and beliefs.

The Cambridge Delta is recognised and accepted all over the world by organisations employing English language teachers. All three modules are separately accredited by Ofqual, the regulator for qualifications, exams and tests in England at Level 7 on the National Qualifications Framework for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Delta modules can also be integrated into some MA programmes in the UK.

Cambridge say that people entering the course will normally have at least two years' full-time relevant teaching experience, a first degree, an initial teaching qualification, a range of teaching experience, and a sufficient level of English. As the wording suggests, these are not absolute requirements. In practice, though, course providers are quite precious about their pass rates and so often impose their own requirements (such as a longer period of teaching experience) on people applying to take the course through them. Having taken part in a lot of professional development is probably the most useful thing for actually passing the course.

Ever since its foundation, Cambridge School has believed that the key to success in the world of language teaching is providing students with high-quality lessons. For this reason, we have always placed great importance on training and development. Our own teachers attend weekly seminars given by members of our highly experienced and innovative Teacher Training Team. They are also regularly observed by senior teachers and get the chance to learn from each other through our peer observation programme.
Many of our teacher trainers have given seminars in other schools in the area and also in conferences in other parts of Spain and abroad. We have also had many articles published in teaching journals and magazines.
As well as offering classes in our centres to children, teenagers and adults, Cambridge School also provides language training to many leading companies (including household names such as Kraft, Henkel, Merck, Monsanto and Mango) and to local private and state schools. We teach Spanish, Catalan, German, French, Italian and Mandarin Chinese as well as English and also provide other language-related services such as translation and interpreting and language study trips to countries where the language in question is spoken.

The Cambridge School Teacher Training Department has long experience in helping teachers find work in good schools in Spain and around the world. Both our CELTA and DELTA courses include indispensable careers advice sessions full of practical advice on how to get the right job. In addition, all teachers enrolled on training courses with us get exclusive access to our Facebook Job Market where teaching positions are regularly posted. What’s more, we give priority to teachers who have trained at Cambridge School when we have vacancies in our eight centres.

We offer a homestay accommodation service to our candidates. Many of our homestay hosts are young, single professional people who have a spare room in their house or flat. Sometimes, but less often, they are families with children. In your room, you will have a bed, a wardrobe and a workspace (occasionally, the workspace is in another part of the home). You will have shared use of the bathroom and the kitchen.
We are proud to say that our trainees are nearly always very happy with their accommodation despite the fact that it is very cheap. The price is 395€ for the whole 5-week period (from the Friday night before the course begins until the Friday night that the course ends inclusive) plus a deposit of 100€. The deposit is returned at the end of the course providing there have been no breakages or damage in the accommodation. If you wish to stay extra days before or after the course, this is usually possible, as long as you arrange it beforehand and pay proportionally for the extra days.

Granollers is a safe, friendly, affluent city of 60,000 people located about 25 kilometers inland from Barcelona. It has an attractive historical centre focused around the 'Porxada', an unusual Renaissance building which looks something like a Roman temple. In fact, it was built as a grain store - hence the name of the town, Granollers. The 'Porxada' is set in a large square flanked by shops bars and restaurants. It is an ideal place if you like sitting at pavement cafés watching the world go by. Nearby is the extensive, modern pedestrianised shopping area. On Thursday mornings, the whole town centre is transformed into a huge market in which you can find a bewildering array of local products.

Course Feedback

It was a really intensive, crazy and stressful course, but it was worth doing it as I've learnt a lot and questioned my teaching in so many ways, so it was and is valuable experience. The tutors are by far the best-qualified specialists, their vast knowledge is impressive, their feedback was thorough and incredibly helpful.

, DELTA Module 2 student,

Excellent input and invaluable feedback made the course a pleasure

, DELTA Module 2 student,

Extremely positive experience. Delta is hard and challenging, but Cambridge School Granollers made sure tutees felt supported, heard and guided throughout the whole process. If were to take the Delta again, Cambridge School would be my choice again.
